Applicable Analysis and Discrete Mathematics is the successor of Publikacije Elektrotehničkog fakulteta – Serija Matematika. The journal Publications of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering – Series Mathematics and Physics was founded in the year 1956 by Professor Dragoslav S. Mitrinović. In the beginning, each contribution appeared separately bound, and numbered consecutively, several times a year (from 1(1956) till 29(1959)). Since the year 1959, the issues have been appearing collected in one or more volumes per year, with numbers of the first and last paper in the volume, like 84-91(1963). The last volume in Series Mathematics and Physics was 735-762(1982).

In the first years, the journal had contributions from different fields apart from Mathematics: Physics, Mechanics, Electrical Engineering. Papers were written in the Serbian, French, Russian, German and English language. In the course of time, the journal focused almost exclusively on Mathematics, especially convexity, functional equations and differential equations, and English language became dominant.

During years 1983-1989, the journal stopped appearing. In 1990, it was decided to renew the journal, in the form of Series Mathematics, which would publish peer-reviewed mathematical papers written in English. Nowadays, the publishing rate is one volume per year, and volumes are being numbered consecutively, starting from 1(1990).

Since 2005, the papers accepted for publication have been put on the Internet site of the journal before being published.

Starting with the volume 3(1992), the journal has had an international editorial board, whose members are distinguished mathematicians in their fields of research.

The Problem section has been appearing since the volume 2(1992).

Applicable Analysis and Discrete Mathematics is indexed, abstracted and cover-to cover reviewed in: Mathematical Reviews/MathSciNet, Zentralblatt für Mathematik, Referativny Zhurnal-VINITI, and included in DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals).
